THE BLUE HOTEL
Whilst The Blue can be perceived as a boutique hotel it is also sophisticated, provocative, bold, unique, easy on the eye, photogenic and doesn’t behave like a hotel room at all. It is more like a big city apartment that is thoughtfully and uniquely designed to entice the urban traveller who just happens to find themselves in the Bondi heartland. AZB reimagined a block of outdated units, 5 minute walk from Bondi Beach, into something very different that doesn’t reflect sand and surf of its beach side location. Instead The Blue is the antithesis of the usually Australian beach inspired space. From the striking majestic arched glass side door entrance with multi neon tube light installation flooding the discreet hallway to our creation of a liquorice khaki blend pigment wall colour that is distilled into every element within the rooms which reflect a darker tertiary palette.
We foresaked our usual layered art and curated decorative to only feature and showcase saleable elements – large original Simon Lekias prints, KSUBI bed wear, even Blue Hotel snap backs. Branded Surf boards, skate boards and bicycles are also available as well as a custom detail vintage Land Rover Defender to rev around Sydney in. Whilst the Blue Hotel trades above we created a ground floor dining space and mulit function work space below. During business house the ground level operates as The Blue Cafe and co-work space.
The interior is full of character, texture and orginal elemtns. We wanted to create an inviting and functional space with simple arched areas, breeze blocks as room dividers, lush butter soft banquette, incredible sourced local and international art as well as some hacked into surf boards and skate boards and custom cluster of Mark DouglasS hand blown pendant lights. We then designed the kitchen with the focal point of a beautifully rendered exposed pizza oven for when The Blue Cafe converts to Italo House in the evening.Italo House is a bustling, wildly popular, authentic Italian pizza parlour run by well known chef Juri and owned by Will Mathews the man behind the iconic Mad Pizza. It services the the Blue Hotel and reaffirms the mantra – settle into The Blue on your own terms but see you at the bar for a compulsory complimentary cocktail!
The Blue Hotel .. is all the comforts of home but sooooooo much better.
